“Nothing is terrible except fear itself” – Francis Bacon
There are so many things that define what fear is. On the blog of John Maxwell, he said that fear is universal and that even the most courageous people feel afraid sometimes. He also said that avoiding fear doesn’t really make it go away but there is one way to overcome fear: we have to face it. John Maxwell also mentioned some ways to overcome sin. These are:
-Discover the foundation of fear
It says here that most of the time fear is not actually based on a fact but it is just based on a feeling.
=>Many people feel fear because sometimes they just make things up in their mind that makes them afraid. Like for example when you hear a click in the door at night your first thought must be that it’s a burglar so you feel fear and you tend to think of other scary things so that makes you more afraid.
-Admit your fears
By admitting our fear, we can then challenge its accuracy.
=>One step in overcoming fear is by admitting it. By knowing and admitting your fears then you can now think of ways to overcome them.
-Accept the frailty and brevity of life
We can only focus on what we can control in our life by accepting the frailty and brevity of life.
=>Let us think more on the things that we can really do and make better rather than stressing out on the things that are inevitable.
-Accept fear as the price of progress
For us to do something great we must first be willing to take some risks and with risk comes fear.
=>Fear is everywhere. Everyone feels it. Even the best things in life are connected with fear. So in order to achieve the best things we have to undergo many obstacles and one of them is fear. But once we overcome it we will feel very relived and overwhelmed with great emotions.
-Develop a burning desire that overcomes fear
Sometimes the best way to fight fear is by confronting it.
=> We should always think that there is a bigger picture. Behind fear there is always something greater that’s why we should develop a burning desire that overcomes fear.
-Focus on what you can control
“Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do” – John Wooden
=>Everything in this world changes. Change is everywhere and it is inevitable. There is nothing we can do about it. So rather than focusing on the unstoppable we should focus our mind, time and power in things that we can actually do.
-Focus on today
By focusing only on what’s right in front of us, we can manage tremendous risk because we know we’ll only have to deal with it one wave at a time.
=>Don’t think about the past because you can’t do anything about it. What’s done is done and you can’t do anything about it. Don’t think about tomorrow because you can’t predict what would happen. The best thing is think about today and what you can do or say because that’s what matters.
-Put some wins under your belt
The more we face our fears, the more capable we begin to feel, and the more fears we are willing to face.
=>Fear can build up but courage can too. We face each day with fear. We might not feel it all the time but it is there and it is easily triggered. But as the days pass by we encounter them. And as we encounter them we gain some kind of immunity to this certain fear so we become more courageous to face life day after day.
-Do it now
As we realize what’s true and focus on what we can control, the fear naturally fades and weakens.
=>We can conquer fear in many ways and some of these ways were mentioned. If thinking about overcoming fear is not working then the thing left to do is acting. We should act in order for us to overcome our fears.
John Maxwell’s blog is really inspiring for me. It actually is really true. It talks about fear and it is a constant thing in this world. All of us experience fear at some point in our life and we should know how to overcome them and John Maxwell just gave us some ideas how to.
